At first, I was actually hesitant on talking to Lucy. I had to adapt first to catch her accent and other peers coming from South America. I think my first turning point was when I cackled out loud as she recited how she used Letterboxd as a diary. I mean… who does that? It still makes me laugh and the funnier part is that I ended up using Letterboxd seriously because of her.
Lucy was a true definition of safe space for me through the program. I thought of the time our friends could not understand our conversations because genuinely I think it’s too niche for the queers.
When I remembered her, I thought about her love to the ocean and the sky. I thought of her passion on collective action in environmental and political issues in her home country. I thought about her carefulness in taking care of our body from injury because of her experience.

For her drawing, the main theme was sequoia trees and Mexican mesquite. She was the reason I could hug the giant sequoia near our campus. I curated flowers from Stardew Valley too, reminding me of the time she stopped me for her farm tour during the christmas break.
